Mayor's Internship Aide Program


Mayor Kaplan has started a paid internship program for undergraduate Juniors or Seniors or a graduate student studying political science, marketing, advertising, communications, planning, environmental engineering, public relations, or a similar field.

It is a very good opportunity to get experience in the government and gain skills needed for a career in the field of politics, public relations and marketing. 

  • There will be two internships: 
    March to December
    January to November

Flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends are expected.  The Intern will be typically working 20 to 25 per week; but no more than 30 hours a week.


Conducts research; handles phone calls and inquiries from citizens regarding normal business communications, technical information and specific problems; handles and processes all routine correspondence, letters and memos; types appropriate responses.

Applicants must show a strong ability in giving public presentations and communication with public officials and residents.   Tasks include attending meetings, citizen outreach, contacting city officials on the mayor's behalf, writing various articles and city proclamations, problem solving and independent research.

Special Requirements

Applicants must hold a drivers license, and possess strong skills in Access, Power Point, Excel, and Microsoft Word, as well as general clerical and office skills. Knowledge of social media and web design is a plus.
